BaT Auction: 67k-Mile 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SL
This 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SL was sold new by Autohaus on Eden in Northbrook, Illinois and was moved to California by its first owner, who returned it to Illinois in the late 1970s and sold it to its second owner in 1980. The car was acquired by the seller in 1997 and brought back to California, where it received a repaint in its original shade of Silver Gray Metallic with a black hardtop as well as refreshment of its black leather interior. The seller then sold the car in 2002 to a friend, from whom he reacquired it in 2011. Power is from a numbers-matching 2.8-liter M130 inline-six that was rebuilt in summer 2020 and is paired with a floor-shifted automatic transmission. Additional work in the last 10 years included a second repaint, replating the chrome brightwork, further reupholstery, refinishing the wood trim, and replacement of the exhaust system. This W113 shows 67k miles and is offered with a sales invoice, a copy of its factory data card, records dating from new, owner’s manuals, and a clean California title.
